The school has a future planning curriculum that provides opportunities for pupils to have a range of first-hand experiences to help them where possible, to make informed choices about their own futures. Younger students have tasters of college, work, positive alternatives to work and social services provision while the older students have more tailored programmes to support transition to their next destinations which, for some pupils, includes developing employability skills.
Support is also given to pupils who are transitioning into the 14-19 stage through open days and opportunities to join classes in the term before they move. Careers guidance is also an integral part of the curriculum and this is provided by our independent careers advisor Dave Hooley.
An experienced member of support staff is allocated one day a week to work on supporting the delivery of the future planning curriculum including organising future activities and collecting destinations data. Destinations data shows that all pupils go on to appropriate places and tracking of pupils own choices of destination shows that a large majority go to own choice of destination.
